How Long the Exchange Programme Would Be?

I just got an email from Utrecht University's international office's woman.

She said even if I got an approval, that doesn't mean I can stay there for one year yet, because each academic year starts from fall semester, and I'll go there from spring semester. This would make me staying there for 2 academic years (each half of them), so they cannot give me an approval for one year at once. Instead, I have to do it well in the spring semester so that I can stay another semester: Apparently, whether I can stay in the Netherlands for one year depends on my performance in the spring semester!!

Mmm, I don't know if I can do a good performance in English... This is the situation.

I'll do my best!

...Well, I have to get an approval at first. :P

  1. Hi, it's me again :P It's Sunday and I'm applying study-avoiding behaviour :P

It's true that our academic year starts in fall, usually the 1st of September. The second semester starts the 5th of February. Be aware that it may be very difficult for you, the demands in The Netherlands can be different from those in Japan and you are solely and strictly judged on your results and reports, nothing else. Perhaps you can share something about that in a next post: How are you graded in Japan? How is the interaction between teachers and students? Casual? Formal? If you start thinking about it, this makes for an interesting comparison once you're here.

How will the acceptance process go? Do you have to send them a resume? Grades list? What did you write in your motivational letter?

I'm curious to read things like that :)

  2. Hi Diana again :)
OK, I'll wright something about Japanese University (or Just about Kyoto University, because I'm not sure if I can consider Kyoto Uni. as a normal one).

I already sent them my Grades list (which is not fantastic), motivation letter and application thing.
All I can do now is just waiting for the result...

  3. You should write about what you want to write, of course :) But I'm curious. For example, you say that you're not sure if you can consider Kyoto University to be a normal university. I've heard similar stories, Kyoto University takes a more western approach to education. Do you also experience this? Do you expect that the education style in Utrecht will be similar to that in Kyoto, because of that? There's so many things you can think about :)

What do you mean with "which is not fantastic". Do you mean "not fantastic" in an understatement-kind-of-way, as in: "it's terrible", or do you mean you've got normal grades and you're worried that might not be good enough?

Oh, I've got an interesting link for you that I found a while ago:

If you want we can e-mail instead of communicating through blog comments, but I'm just going to assume you don't mind that I'm filling up your blog with remarks :P

    Talk to you later!

    Groetjes,

  4. Usually I don't come up with any topics for this blog, so I'd like to hear what is curious for you, Diana :)
Then I can write about something interesting at least for you! Thank you for those topics to write.

My grade is not horrible, but not so great, this is what I meant.

And of course I don't mind, so please keep filling my blog with comments! :D
